We’ve recently boosted our volunteer team by welcoming back Hammad Sethi. Hammad worked for Reaching People as a Community Training Officer from 2020 until earlier this year when he left to live in the US to be closer to his family.

Hammad is now delivering online Health+ 1 on 1 and group sessions for the charity from his current base in Houston, Texas.

Whilst he worked for Reaching People, Hammad trained NHS staff, patients and community members in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in finding health information online, using surgery online services to access GP surgeries and in using Health apps to access NHS services. This helped to ensure digital health inclusion for people with age and language barriers.

Reflecting on what drew him back, Hammad said: “After doing the job for 6-7 years, it felt quite natural to return in a voluntary role. I’ve missed it and find the work interesting. “While I’ve been in the US, I’ve undergone a tooth extraction so have seen the differences in the standard and cost of health care, which has highlighted the importance of assisting people with access to the health services that they need.

Sarah Richards, Joint CEO at Reaching People added: “We’re delighted that Hammad has been able to continue his support for the charity, despite the transatlantic distance between us now! It just shows how committed Hammad and the team are to assisting people via the Health+ project.”
