Our Just ASK project team recently ran training sessions for volunteers and staff from a cross-section of VCSE organisations including the Belgrave Food Hub at the Belgrave Neighbourhood Co-operative Housing Association (BNCHA), Apnapan, Jamila's Legacy and Centre Project.

The attendees provided some great feedback, and they also valued the opportunity to network with each other.

When asked, ‘What I learnt from the course?’, attendees responded with positive messages including:

How to communicate effectively & help people access services online
Many things! The different learning styles – it was interesting!
The different types of communication styles
The importance of communication
Best communication, staying safe online & many important things
How to put into practice when somebody asks for advice/information, signposting them correctly and helping them
Communication, other people’s views & ideas
Learning to listen actively
Lots of things!
Lots about myself and others
Motivation
Additional ways to stay safe online

Emma Thornton, Project Coordinator for Reaching People’s Just ASK project, said: “The purpose of the sessions was to give the attendees the confidence and skills to support their service users to access services online. However, the training is much more than just online access and safety, as we cover relationship building, learning styles and other aspects which are aimed at enabling them to support others.

“The feedback we received was that content is valuable, both for the service users and the teams themselves, and that it will equip them in many aspects of their lives.”
