Reaching People bids a warm welcome to Katherine Doherty, who joins us as a Project Assistant for the Just ASK project.
Katherine joins the Just ASK project team and will be supporting people at food and community hubs with digital needs, helping to signpost them online and access services that they need. Katherine will also deliver training to staff and volunteers to help their users.
Katherine is on secondment from Reaching People member, The Emerald Centre. Sangeeta Patel, Joint Chief Executive of Reaching People, added: “As well as Katherine’s experience and expertise, the additional value in this appointment is that in the spirit of collaboration, we will be sharing skills and learning, capacity building and cost-effectiveness.”
Katherine’s role at The Emerald Centre is as an Intensive Outreach Support Worker. Here, she supports senior citizens, helping with utility bills, personal visits, lunch clubs, walking clubs and more. She also works on recruiting new members.
Katherine says: “My manager at The Emerald Centre recommended me for the Just ASK role. We believe that it will be good for my personal development, enabling me to learn new skills and transfer those skills to my work with The Emerald Centre as well.
“Before The Emerald Centre, I also worked with Leicester City Council in customer service and council tax advisory roles, so I’ve always been dealing with people in need and working with hard-to-reach communities.
“I believe that my work is about building trust, communication, perseverance, getting recognised and trusted, and building relationships.”
