Reaching People would like to welcome Jayshree Parmar, who recently joined our Health+ project team as a new volunteer.
Trained Health+ volunteers deliver group sessions about the NHS App, GP online services and how to access NHS health information to patients, community groups and to surgery staff.
Bringing experience of customer-facing work
Jayshree says that she’s “always worked directly with people, including those from vulnerable situations” through her 37-year career working as front of house in a public sector role.
Having taken early retirement last year, Jayshree has been working as an invigilator at a local school but still wanted to work with the community.
“A friend told me about Reaching People’s Health+ project and I saw it as an opportunity to engage with the community,” explained Jayshree.
“I had experience on the digital side through my previous work and had helped to train my own staff.”
A sense of achievement
After completing her training and attending her first couple of events, Jayshree added: “I love the way that we help people at the training sessions, teaching them how to navigate the app and reassuring them that they don’t need to be afraid of the technology.
“The feedback so far has been so nice – people have showed their appreciation for the progress that they’ve made. And if it’s something that I've helped them to change and made their life easier, I get a real sense of achievement.”
